Isabel Murphy

Isabel Murphy is a writer living in Bedford, NY with her husband and four sons. She is an active member at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, where she was received into the faith in 2022 after having grown up Catholic. (Her distant cousin, Katharine Drexel, became a saint in 2000 and Isabel was lucky to attend the canonization led by Pope John Paul II.) Though Isabel relished a childhood spent hearing mass at the Benedictine Abby in Bethlehem, CT, she is glad to find herself in the Episcopal faith with its welcoming traditions, emphasis on grace and invitations to intellectual rigor. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Vermont Law School, Isabel spent several years as a domestic violence prosecutor at the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office. She now writes novels and personal essays exploring motherhood, faith and culture.
