Valarie Stanley is the Senior Director of the Office of Institutional Equity and Access and the Senior Deputy Title IX Coordinator for Faculty and Staff at Yale. She spent many years as the Assistant Director of the Equal Opportunity Office, was then promoted to the Client Support Unit in the Department of Human Resources, and after serving there for almost two years, she returned to the Office for EEO Programs to take on the role of Associate Director.
Valarie has always been active in the Yale Community. She has been Board Chair and Treasurer of the Afro-American Cultural Center at Yale, and was twice honored by that group for her contributions to the Black community. She has been a member of the University Staff Affirmative Action Advisory Committee, the Work Place Violence Task Force, the Faculty Search Process Taskforce, the University Traffic Safety Committee, and the Planning Committee for the 2008 Workplace Survey for service and maintenance staff, among others. She currently serves on the Provost’s Advisory Committee on Accessibility Resources, the Diversity, Equity, Diversity, Belonging Sub-Committee, the Title IX Steering Committee, the Yale University Campus Resource Team (Yale CRT), the Yale Veterans Network Steering Committee, the Yale Latino Network Steering Committee, and the DiversAbility At Yale Steering Committee. Valarie is also a primary resource for students who have concerns about any kind of discrimination and/or harassment.
Valarie’s energies and contributions have not been limited to Yale, she is also an active member of the New Haven Community, having served as Co-Chair of the Greater Bridgeport/New Haven OFCCP Industrial Liaison Group, and as a Commissioner and Assistant Secretary for the New Haven Commission for Disabilities. Currently she is Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Josephine Jarvis Gray Senior Housing, Inc., Senior Warden and Chair of the Personnel Committee at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in New Haven; Past President of the St. Luke’s Network Guild. Outside of New Haven, she has served as Vice President of the Association of Black Women in Higher Education and was a member of the New England Minority Women Administrators. She is Vice Chair of the of the Governance Board of National Higher Education Recruitment Consortium and Chairs the Executive Committee of the Metro New York Southern Connecticut. She is also active on a diocesan level. She is a member of the Mission Council, The Women’s Ministry Network Committee, team-leader and member of the Racial Healing, Justice, and Reconciliation Core Group, a member of the ECCT Finance Committee, a member of the St. Luke’s/Trinity Racial Healing Steering Committee, and former member of the Diocesan Leadership Team for Living Local Following God. Valarie is a member of Tau Pi Phi National Honor Society in Accounting, Business and Economics. She earned her B.S. in Business Management from Albertus Magnus College in New Haven. Valarie lives in New Haven, has an adult son and daughter, and has worked at Yale for forty-five years.
